Valencia is a popular tourist city on Spain’s south-eastern Mediterranean Coast. We encourage all interns to take advantage of the opportunity to learn some Spanish skills during their program (or develop their existing vocabulary). Any additional Spanish language lessons must be coordinated and paid for separately. Bear in mind that internships in Spain include five introductory Spanish language lessons, which are provided during the orientation period. Come prepared and willing to surmount a language barrier (and ask for help when needed), as opposed to being intimidated by it. Interns should be prepared for the very natural and normal frustration of not always understanding what is being said around them. However, interns should expect that a language barrier can still be encountered to a certain extent. Spanish language proficiency is not a requirement to join. ![]() Those on longer term internships, or interns who are able to speak Spanish, are more likely to be able to work independently, as there are greater opportunities to show your skills and build stronger relationships. Interns wanting to use architectural software and programs should have prior experience before your internship. You can also accompany your supervisor in meetings and on construction site visits, helping interns to experience the building process in person. Interns can assist with making sketches, technical design, preparing mock-up models and 3D images and drafting projects. You can also have the opportunity to utilize design software such as Archicad, Autocad and Revit.
