My question is: will MKV files also be transcoded for my soon-to-exist Roku 2 if I have embedded captions? Will the captions even work? Playback is perfect in the Plex desktop client and in VLC without any transcoding (crystal clear captions) - when I send it to my iOS devices (iPad/iPhone), I noticed it is getting transcoded (which makes sense, since iOS doesn't support MKV and anyway so Plex must be pulling out the captions and re-encoding it on the video stream which is fine, it's a small screen anyway). had a question about subtitle support (which is a must for me): I have been expirementing ripping my DVDs with Handbrake (High Profile, MKV) and embedding a soft-sub "closed caption" track directly in the MKV file. I want to get a Roku 2 so I can stream to my TV. Hello! I've can't believe I didn't find Plex sooner! This is amazing and gives me reason to finally digitize all my DVDs/Blu Rays. There's bound to be more software switches controlling subtitles. I've got Burn Subtitles = Always and it's working *.srt next to *.mp4 but NOT in their own folder did not workģ) Plex Preferences on TV - Subtitles = Soft (recommended) is working for meĤ) Video Playback Options for show on TV - Subtitle Stream = Unknown (SRT) ĥ) * key on Roku remote while playing show Ħ) Plex Web Interface for the specific show - Subtitles = Unknown (SRT) ħ) Plex Web Interface Settings>Server>Languages - Subtitle Mode = Always Enabled is working for me nowĨ) Plex Web Interface Settings>Web>Player - Subtitles = beats the hell out of me. I found eight subtitles switches in less than an hour this morning (after spending 30 minutes last night trying unsuccessfully to get it to work so the gang could watch a movie.) Post your own and let's get this list to ten (or more).ġ) Names - Folder name. If you haven't had trouble with subtitles with Plex/Roku, then you're not trying.
